How to make your LinkedIn profile stand out...

Many recruiters use LinkedIn on a daily basis to spot new talent and recruit for their business. As an individual looking for employment, it is essential to have an attractive, up-to-date, and approachable LinkedIn profile.

With our experience and expertise in LinkedIn and personal branding strategy, here are DigitalHive’s top LinkedIn tips for elevating your profile.

Tip 1 - Have a clear profile picture and an engaging cover image.

Your profile picture is the first impression a future employer will have of you. Make sure your profile photo is professional, whilst using natural lighting and a neutral background.

Wear what you would choose to wear at work, and ensure your face covers 60 percent of the photo. Most importantly… Be yourself! It is great when your personality shines through in your profile.

Your cover image is a secondary element to your profile, so this too should be clear and memorable. However, do not complicate this! The image does not need to be complex – it just needs to be clear. For example, a clean and simplistic image of a workspace is a good place to start.

Tip 2 - Utilise your about section.

The about section can really allow you to sell yourself to future employers. Here you can dive into greater detail about your values, skills, and achievements which will no doubt be attractive to recruiters. Use keywords and phrases that relate to your area of expertise – this way you will become more visible to recruiters who are looking to connect with someone like you based on your skills and knowledge.

Tip 3 - Provide clear details about your role(s).

Make sure to include your duties, responsibilities and any other note-worthy information about your job role(s). You don’t need as much description on your LinkedIn profile as you have on your CV. Instead, it is beneficial for potential employers to see your current work responsibilities clearly through your profile content.

Tip 4 - Post regularly.

Regular posters have a far higher chance of being noticed by future employers on the platform. Active profiles are attractive to recruiters – and by building a personal brand, you are positioning yourself as an authority in your industry.

If someone searching for talent were to land on a profile with few connections and little posting activity, they are likely to leave the page and look elsewhere. However, if they see that you actively create content, and have a way to contact you quickly, they will be more inclined to start a conversation with you.
Besides this, regular posting allows your potential future employer to get to know you a little bit more with each post. However, don’t just post for the sake of it, it is important that what you say adds some value to the audience.

Tip 5 - Include your contact details.

If you are in the process of hunting for job opportunities, make sure you are easily contactable. Once a potential employer has taken a look through your skills and attributes, the next stage will be to reach out to you, so having your contact details readily available will enable a smooth process for both you and the recruiter. This will lead to higher engagement with potential employers which should increase your chances of securing the role you have been looking for!
